Usually, Aida is a very quiet woman but she became very animated and pointed, "Shedza!" We stopped "Jabulani" (our Land Rover) and there, walking along the road was her oldest child (daughter Shed-za, which means "bright"), along with Aida's Mother and Grand Mother. The chances of us seeing them in this thriving Venda Capital were very small indeed. We choose to call it a "God-incident." So 4 generations came together on the side of the road. Shedza, Grandmother and Great Grandmother were thrilled to welcome tiny Madalen into the Baloyi family.
Just for interest.... The Venda tribe was a nation on it's own up until the 1990's. Thohoyandou was the capital and it is in the heart of Venda land.
When Mandela became president, the Venda chose to join South Africa and they think it has been better for them.
